Why create an artist community?

It’s been on my mind for a while now… creating a safe place to share my art & my journey with the people in my life.

As much as I’d like to have weekly discussions with all of the friends, clients, colleagues, & mentors I’ve met throughout my life- there isn’t enough time in the day.

This is why social media exists.

I work HARD to maintain my boundaries with social media but I can easily lose myself in the ‘scroll’ comparing my life to others in the worst possible way.

Social media is NOT a safe space.

By now, we all know what we say & do online can and WILL be used against us. It’s important to teach children this at a very early age. Yet as adults, we tend to break these rules ourselves.

The primitive part of our brain is easily influenced. From creeping on your competition to your X, comparison will always steal the joy from living.

Algorithms are constantly changing!

With social media, it’s hard to keep up with the people you actually CARE seeing in your newsfeed. Images are flagged for being inappropriate. Sites ban individuals at their own disgression either for violating their rules or simply because they choose to do so.

So what happens to your community of people when a platform goes under? Platforms change and disappear overnight (re: do you remember MySpace?!).

All of these reasons brought me to the conclusion: I must create my own community of like-minded individuals.

This will allow me to share my art & my struggles freely without fear of rejection or retaliation. If I offend someone, we can have an honest discussion improving our ability to communicate effectively.

Finding your ‘tribe’ is a life-long journey and I feel fortunate to have made an impression on so many people throughout my life. Part of my passion is sharing the lessons I’ve learned the hard way.

I openly share my mistakes so others can avoid the pitfalls that held me back.
